In December 2025, the California Energy Commission (CEC) released new regulations for smart grid construction, requiring medium and high-voltage cables used in new grid projects starting from 2026 to be embedded with Internet of Things (IoT) monitoring modules to realize real-time collection and remote early warning of parameters such as temperature, humidity, and partial discharge. The new regulations cover cables with voltage levels from 110kV to 500kV, and the modules need to be compatible with California's existing power grid data platform with a data transmission delay of no more than 500 milliseconds. China's Zhongtian Technology has launched adaptive products, which have passed FCC certification, with module power consumption below 10mW and stable operation in the environment of -30℃ to 70℃. The new regulations will promote the popularization of smart cables in the North American market, and the relevant market size is expected to exceed 8 billion US dollars in 2026.
