China-Russia Arctic LNG Project Signed; Low-Temperature Resistant Cables Connect Arctic Energy Corridor
2025-12-19 09:38:24

In November 2025, Russia's Novatek signed a cable supply agreement for the Arctic LNG-3 project with China's Orient Cable, with a contract value of 1.87 billion yuan. The special polar cables supplied this time need to adapt to the extreme low-temperature environment of -55℃ in the Arctic region, adopting cold-resistant rubber outer sheaths and nickel-plated copper conductors. They passed the bending test at -60℃ without cracks, and the insulation resistance retention rate exceeds 95%. The cables will be used for power transmission between the LNG processing plant on the Yamal Peninsula and the receiving station along the Arctic coast, with a total length of 1,200 kilometers. The submarine section adopts an armored protection design to resist ice floe impact and seawater corrosion. The project is expected to be completed in 2027 and will become the longest low-temperature cable transmission system in the Arctic region.
