Since 2025, the EU has strengthened new environmental regulations on cables, making carbon footprint labels a mandatory document for customs clearance, imposing more stringent compliance requirements on Chinese cable enterprises. The new regulations require carbon footprint calculations to strictly comply with the ISO 14067 standard, covering the entire life cycle of raw material extraction, production and processing, cross-border transportation, use, and waste recycling, involving the accurate collection of data from high-energy-consuming links such as copper ore mining and copper rod smelting. The European Commission estimates that compliant enterprises will need to invest additional testing costs, and the overall export cost is expected to increase by 15%-25%, with small, medium, and micro enterprises facing particularly prominent pressure. Industry experts suggest that enterprises can promote compliance in three steps: first, clarify product boundaries and prioritize collecting power consumption data from copper rod smelting, which accounts for 60% of carbon emissions in the production process; second, select compliant LCA software such as Simapro and Ecoinvent for calculations to ensure data traceability; third, optimize production processes and supply chain layouts, and reduce life-cycle carbon emissions through technological transformation. Although the new regulations raise the access threshold, they also force the industry to accelerate green transformation and promote high-end development.
