In December 2025, the Institute of Electrical Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in conjunction with Far East Cable, successfully achieved mass production of extreme environment-resistant power cables. The product can work stably in an ultra-low temperature environment of -60℃ to a high temperature of 250℃, and also has the characteristics of radiation resistance and chemical corrosion resistance, filling the domestic gap in related fields. The product adopts independently developed ceramic-based composite insulation materials and high-temperature resistant superconducting alloy conductors. After 1,000 high-low temperature cycle tests, the performance attenuation rate is less than 5%, and various indicators have reached the international leading level. Previously, such high-end extreme environment-resistant power cables were long monopolized by European and American enterprises, and domestic demand relied on imports with a price as high as 80,000 yuan per kilometer. After the mass production of domestic products, the price dropped to 35,000 yuan per kilometer. It has been successfully applied to projects such as Antarctic research stations and western Gobi photovoltaic bases, and the annual market scale is expected to exceed 5 billion yuan.
