Against the backdrop of the global deepening of "dual carbon" strategies and the surging demand from emerging industries, China's wire and cable industry is accelerating its transformation towards greenization, high-endization, and intelligence. A series of new power cords and cable products integrating environmentally friendly materials, advanced processes, and full-scenario adaptability have emerged, obtaining certifications from authoritative international systems. These products not only address industry pain points such as extreme environment applications and low-carbon emission reduction but also continuously enhance the competitiveness of Chinese cable products in the global market.
As the "industrial blood vessels" supporting energy transmission, industrial production, and people's livelihood security, the technological upgrading of the wire and cable industry focuses on three core directions. In the field of green low-carbon development, the industry generally adopts recycled copper, low-smoke halogen-free environmentally friendly materials, and green power production models. The utilization rate of recycled metals has risen to 40%, and some high-end products have achieved full-life-cycle carbon footprint quantification management. Certified by RoHS, REACH, and carbon footprint certification systems, these products comply with international green trade requirements such as the EU's CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism). In terms of material innovation, new materials such as carbon fiber conductors, liquid metal cables, and nanocrystalline alloy cables are widely used, expanding the product temperature resistance range to -40℃~150℃, improving conductivity by more than 30%, and achieving lightweight design (70% lighter than traditional copper cables), meeting the needs of high-end scenarios such as new energy and industrial automation. In process upgrading, the coverage rate of automated production lines and intelligent manufacturing technologies has reached 80% of the production capacity of leading enterprises. The application of millimeter-wave detection, self-healing insulation layers, and other technologies has controlled product defect rates to the micrometer level, increasing production efficiency by 20%.
Currently, the new power cord and cable products have formed a diversified supply system, covering 2-core to multi-core specifications, with a full range of products with rated currents of 10A-32A and voltage levels of 125V-440V, widely used in photovoltaic energy storage, new energy vehicles, medical equipment, smart grids, and other fields. Among them, superconducting cables, with the advantage of transmission loss lower than 15%, have become the core choice for UHV power transmission and urban power grid upgrading; flexible customized products meet the personalized needs of emerging scenarios such as charging piles and rail transit through 72-hour localized delivery responses. At the policy level, China's "Opinions on Accelerating the Establishment of a Product Carbon Footprint Management System" clarifies that 50 key product carbon footprint accounting standards will be issued by 2025. The implementation of national standards such as GB/T 24067-2024 has promoted the whole-chain carbon reduction of the industry from the production end to the supply chain. The governance of Scope 3 carbon emissions (supply chain and product use stages) has become an industry consensus.
Industry experts stated that with the new energy industry growing at a rate consistently higher than 20% and the expanding demand in markets along the "Belt and Road" initiative, the wire and cable industry is ushering in structural growth opportunities. In the future, the industry will further focus on key areas such as superconducting technology commercialization, wireless transmission integration, and full-life-cycle environmental protection closed-loop. Through technological innovation, it will address challenges such as raw material price fluctuations and green trade barriers, promote product iteration towards "high conductivity, weather resistance, low carbon, and intelligence," and contribute to the global energy system's green transition and new infrastructure construction.
